Growing Junior Inline Hockey

With Lions growing as a club in both the Senior and Junior teams we are now looking to make some changes inside the club.

The 1st changes we are going to put in place is at the Junior side.

In the last few months we have seen more and more interest in Junior players wanting to come and join us and this number seems to be growing each week.

The club has just bought 2 full junior kits to help get more juniors into the sport as we have found a lot of juniors wanting to play but don’t have kit to try the sport out.

We are now changing this session to be a Junior only session with invited seniors players only as we need to make sure this session is about growing the sport at a Junior Level and we are in the middle of changing our Senior Sessions to help develop the sport on this side to but more news on this will follow over the next few weeks.

With this change we are also going to add another permeant coach to the Junior team and this will be Gaz Marsh.

Speaking to all the Junior players and parents everyone seems to like Gaz’s attitude to hockey and the club plus I think he will be a good fit to help develop the junior side of our Lions group both during training as well as in games.

James will still take the sessions along with Gaz but it splits the load and if James has to run an event like he had to this weekend for the Jamie Payne cup it means we still have another person who the players look up to and also listen to.

The other changes we are going to make are with the subs. We are going to offer a payment plan of £15 for the month or £5 per session. The £15 month payment must be made at the 1st training session of the month or by direct debit and will come into play this Saturday.

If players would like to use club kit we will charge £1 per item up to 5 items and wont cost more than £5 after that, this will go back into the club in funding new kit for more juniors to use.

Lions want to make Inline hockey available to everyone to play but also  keeping the cost down.

Yesterday the North West League announced that there will be an under 10s and under 12s Junior league held at Atherton Roller rink from October 2017 until May 2018 and we are aiming to have 2 full teams by the start of October in both age groups.

If any one would like to come and try out the sport or there are any Juniors looking for a club in the North West please contact James via our contact us page for more information.
